We Reached Our Goal!

Yay! Thank you to everyone who friended us on Facebook, or who referred friends over. We reached our goal of 700 friends. This is HUGE. Our original goal was 700 friends by September, and here it is FEBRUARY! A complete 7 months early!

So as a reward, Aidin and I made 2 vlogs Friday night (before we actually reached 700 lol. I had faith!) I apologize that the first video loses sound on the last 2 minutes. I don't know what happened, and I couldn't fix it. We were talking about Aidin's Aidin-isms (words she makes up). I'm sure we will talk about them again in future vlogs.

So without further ado....

and....! 10 Things You Didn't Know About Aidin and Shannon!

Again, thank you soooo much for all of the love and support you give to us every single day. You are all amazing, and we love you all very much!

This One Is A Little Different

I dunno about you, but I like my men rugged, smart, and able to wield a hammer/sledgehammer/wrench/crabpot. Enter Mike Rowe. While not actually a crabber, he does talk a lot about them, well, because he narrates the Deadliest Catch series.

And honestly, who doesn't want to hump this man?

Oh man, I wanna come to work to find Mike on my desk. I don't think I will get anything done, but that doesn't matter, right?

Its Not Hump Day, Its Phil Day!

Not much needs to be said about a day like today. So I'm not going to make this long winded.

Phil, we love you, we miss you, and we still smile over the memories we have of you. Keep ridin'.

Rest in Peace.

P.S. Happy Birthday to our sweetheart of a friend Mandy! Love you girl, keep your chin up!

In Memory of Phil Harris

Shannon and I have been fans of the show for a short time but we feel like we've watched the show since the beginning. We laughed when Johnathan hooked a truck to Phil's pot. We cringed when the big wave hit the Wizard. We cried when Jake Anderson's sister passed. But today we're here to honor the man that won the hearts of many people across the world.

We remember him as the carefree, easy-going guy that ragged on his sons and fooled around with his friends and crew members. Phil was the kind of guy that made people want to be his friend. I can only talk about him from what I've seen since I've never had the chance to meet him. I'm going to be respectful for those who still mourn his passing but at the same time I'm going to sit here and rejoice in his life.

He made us laugh with his facial expressions and his weird sayings. Such as "I feel like a one legged man in an ass kicking contest."and "This is bad. This is bad bad." He made us smile when he took such pride in his sons as they were learning the ropes. He also made us laugh with his need to entertain said sons with his catch phrase "crab farts".

My favorite Phil moment was when he went off on Jake and told him he could be an astronaut if he wanted too but he had to earn it. Although I have many wonderful memories that one always sticks in my head. Shannon was the same way. Her two favorite moments were when Phil showed Josh the rock pile and when Phil was showing the boys old family pictures. Simple moments but still memorable.

I always say Josh and Jake are like him. Josh kinda looks like him and Jake kinda acts like him. I'm sure it meant a lot for all three of them to have each other so close for as long as they did. The joining of Phil's sons on the boat showed us another side of Phil. He was still the hard ass captain but he was also the loving dad that wanted the best for his boys.

A year may have gone since his passing but his life still goes on. We as fans and friends still remember his words and his laughter. We will always remember Phil as he was and will never let that memory pass too. His face is etched in our hearts and our minds and we will never forget the fun loving guy that rode motorcycles and built bird houses.

So to everyone, remember Phil Harris as the man we all know and love. He will always be with us and that is where I want him to be. Cheers to you, Phil. *drinks a duck fart with Shannon*

Edge of the Rope

Aidin and I are emotional creatures. Its something that cannot be helped or changed.

So I've taken a backseat this week on Facebook, both on Ode2DC and my personal page, and watched all of the hatred and negativity floating around, and it makes me sick to my stomach. The arguing takes away from my love of Deadliest Catch, poisons it until it no longer feels the same as it used to.

I do not mind when people express their opinions, in fact, I think that's great. But the name calling, the slurs, and the threats have got to stop. Aidin and I did not create this blog or the FB page to see people get verbally bitch slapped, because it feels like we have also been slapped across the face.

Let me explain that to you:

Most of you are our friends, you've stuck with us for the last 6 months as the FB page has grown and the blog has matured. We know your children's names, you know ours, we know who has been sick, who is feeling better, and we know who likes which boat on Deadliest Catch. Honestly, you have become our family, the only people in the last 6 months that have ever cared about what is going on in our lives.

So when you argue, when you call each other names, its like having my best friends fight, and I'm stuck in the middle. I had to be in that position a lot in middle school and high school and I can tell you that I hated it.

Our personal lives can be Hell at times, as I'm sure most of you can relate to that. Myself, I am going through a nasty divorce, my child is lashing out, and I've been severely depressed for 2 weeks, and I can't shake it. Aidin's son has been sick constantly for the last 3 months, she lost her job, and she herself has been going through some health issues.

Ode2DC's FB page is our haven, or it was. The last 2 weeks have been rough on us, mainly because we do not like making people mad or disappointing anyone. It took a lot for me to cancel Hump Day this week, because I know how much you all love it, but I needed to take a step back, to re-evaluate how I, and Aidin, want the FB page to run.

A lot of people have recommended deleting the offenders. I'm not sure I can do that. It would be like cutting a brother or sister out of your family.

Like I said, we are emotional creatures.

So this is our plea: Please, for the sake of everyone, if you disagree, keep it respectful, and do not continue harping on other people's opinions. Let it go. State your piece, agree or disagree, but then let it go.

And this is our promise to you: If the fighting continues, Aidin and I will start deleting the posts that have negative comments on them, and if that doesn't work, we will block the people who are continuous offenders. I don't particularly want to do that, but to keep the peace, I will.
