....The End

With Season 7 ending last night of Deadliest Catch, Aidin and I came to a decision on something we've both been pondering for a while: What Do We Do With The Blog?

Right now, the blog is a place to house Hump Day pictures. This was never my intention for this blog, but alas, that's what it has become. Aidin and I both have a lot on our plates right at the moment, and its hard to sit down to write anything meaningful about Deadliest Catch, except, well, its been a season full of drama (I caught myself thinking last night that the Behind the Scenes of Season 7 was the best episode of the entire season. Sad right?). And drama is something Aidin and I both try to avoid at all costs.

So with heavy hearts, we announce the closure of The Blog. Now, rest assured, we aren't going anywhere. The FB page has become the hub of all of our activity anyway, and we will continue to post Hump Day pictures, links to articles, and different things we come across that we believe might interest you about Deadliest Catch and the fishing world in general.

So this is it. The End. We appreciate your support of the blog and all that it has ever entailed. We love you!

Crabber of the Week

I can admit freely, that it took me a long time to warm up to Captain Keith Colburn. At first glance he seemed grumpy, caustic, and unfair. What changed my mind?

THE WAVE.

You know which one I'm talking about. Season 5, during opilio season, while the crew scrambled to cover the stack with a tarp to keep the freezing spray to a minimum, a HUGE wave almost swept them off the deck, injuring most of the crew and scaring the bejebebes out of Keith.

I've watched all the seasons, I've seen accidents happen, and I've seen the captains get shaken up, but nothing prepared me for the guilt etched on Keith's face.

I'm not usually this long winded on these kinds of posts. I feature a crabber and then move on, but I feel the need to bring some extra attention to Keith. It seems this week he's gotten tons of negative attention, to his fight with the cameraman, to the news that The Wizard got sued by an ex-deckhand after he fell down the stairs to the engine room.

Keith is a great captain. He's a hard captain, that is no in doubt, but he has his reasons for running his boat the way he does. He has bills, he has responsibilities, as does his crew. So to see him slammed really irks me.

I hope to one day get the chance to meet him, to shake his hand and express my respect for his hard work and determination, and my hope that the public keep their judgements to themselves

First Ever Crabber of The Week

So instead of having a Hump Day post, I've decided to change things up this week and do a little feature called "Crabber of the Week."

This feature is a chance to highlight some of the great things the men of Deadliest Catch do, or a chance to put the spotlight on a crabber who really went above and beyond during the latest episode.

This week, I chose Travis Lofland.

This past weekend, Travis participated in a High Heel Hike for Austism down in Sarasota, FL and also the Time Bandit Offshore Racing Team got second place in the offshore race! Congrats Travis, and thank you for all that you do to spread the awareness of Austism.
