Ok so Season 8 started this last week and I have yet to watch it. I've been busy with illness and children. Here's the thing. Last night I had a wonderful Deathiest Catch Dream.
I can't remember all the details but it was great.
So Shannon and I were walking around the mall looking at stuff in Hot Topic. We then go to the habor and were asked to join the DC crew......of the Time Bandit!
That's right girls. We were the only girls on the Time Bandit that actually was on the boat for WORK not other things..lol.
So mostly (as I remember) Shannon and I weren't even in rain suits! We were in jeans and t-shirt (not white) and in heels! We did our jobs and I can't remember which one of us went off on Jonathan about how we were there to work not to be his whores. My subconscious, however, had me in Scotty's interested eye.
The last thing I remember is we were fighting to get a pot up in the middle of a storm....it was so much fun.
Ok. Sorry there aren't many details but I'm good about forgetting dreams almost as soon as I wake up but I just felt like I had to share it.

12 years in the making
So I know Shannon said we're closing the blog down because all we were doing was Hump Day pictures but something special is here and I had to share it.
Today marks the 12th anniversary of Shannon and me meeting!! I can still remember the day:
It was lunch time on August 15, 1999 (around 11:30 and noon) and we all had B lunch...which means we had lunch between 3rd period. Well Me and my friends went to sit at our table at lunch but this day I was crying. See my boyfriend of over a year broke up with me because I just turned 18 and he was still 17 and his parents were gonna have me arrested if he didnt break up with me. Anyways, I felt this tapping on my arm and I turned to see this little girl (yes little, she's short) with CURLY poofy hair asking me if I was ok. Now get this....I didnt know who she was and we had class together! Now after she asked I felt a little better but I was still hurt.
We went back to class and instead of listening to the teacher (which hardly anyone did anyways) I wrote this girl a note thanking her for being so nice. She wrote me back saying you're welcome and she hated seeing people crying.
THAT is how I meet Shannon Lanphier. She's been my best friend for 12 years now. We've had our moments were we didnt talk (mostly because of guys) but we've been there for each other for everything. I was her maid of honor at her wedding. I was the first person she told she was pregnant with Logan. And I helped her during the hard times of this ugly divorce.
She has been my foundation for everything. Even though sometimes it seems like I dont appreciate the things she does for me, I do! I dont know how many times she's pulled me out the dark wholes I get myself in and she's helped me see the light of things. She is my partner in crime and I love everything about her.
To my darling Shannon, I love you and please stay the way you are with me. I know I can piss you off and do stupid things but you still find it in you to love me no matter what.
Happy Anniversary Shannon!

....The End
With Season 7 ending last night of Deadliest Catch, Aidin and I came to a decision on something we've both been pondering for a while: What Do We Do With The Blog?
Right now, the blog is a place to house Hump Day pictures. This was never my intention for this blog, but alas, that's what it has become. Aidin and I both have a lot on our plates right at the moment, and its hard to sit down to write anything meaningful about Deadliest Catch, except, well, its been a season full of drama (I caught myself thinking last night that the Behind the Scenes of Season 7 was the best episode of the entire season. Sad right?). And drama is something Aidin and I both try to avoid at all costs.
So with heavy hearts, we announce the closure of The Blog. Now, rest assured, we aren't going anywhere. The FB page has become the hub of all of our activity anyway, and we will continue to post Hump Day pictures, links to articles, and different things we come across that we believe might interest you about Deadliest Catch and the fishing world in general.
So this is it. The End. We appreciate your support of the blog and all that it has ever entailed. We love you!

Crabber of the Week
I can admit freely, that it took me a long time to warm up to Captain Keith Colburn. At first glance he seemed grumpy, caustic, and unfair. What changed my mind?
THE WAVE.
You know which one I'm talking about. Season 5, during opilio season, while the crew scrambled to cover the stack with a tarp to keep the freezing spray to a minimum, a HUGE wave almost swept them off the deck, injuring most of the crew and scaring the bejebebes out of Keith.
I've watched all the seasons, I've seen accidents happen, and I've seen the captains get shaken up, but nothing prepared me for the guilt etched on Keith's face.
I'm not usually this long winded on these kinds of posts. I feature a crabber and then move on, but I feel the need to bring some extra attention to Keith. It seems this week he's gotten tons of negative attention, to his fight with the cameraman, to the news that The Wizard got sued by an ex-deckhand after he fell down the stairs to the engine room.
Keith is a great captain. He's a hard captain, that is no in doubt, but he has his reasons for running his boat the way he does. He has bills, he has responsibilities, as does his crew. So to see him slammed really irks me.
I hope to one day get the chance to meet him, to shake his hand and express my respect for his hard work and determination, and my hope that the public keep their judgements to themselves

First Ever Crabber of The Week
So instead of having a Hump Day post, I've decided to change things up this week and do a little feature called "Crabber of the Week."
This feature is a chance to highlight some of the great things the men of Deadliest Catch do, or a chance to put the spotlight on a crabber who really went above and beyond during the latest episode.
This week, I chose Travis Lofland.
This past weekend, Travis participated in a High Heel Hike for Austism down in Sarasota, FL and also the Time Bandit Offshore Racing Team got second place in the offshore race! Congrats Travis, and thank you for all that you do to spread the awareness of Austism.

Have an idea for a crabber to be featured? Send me an email!

The Masses Have Spoken
I was feeling lazy this week, so I asked our FB friends for a little help. And the winner is...... *cue drumroll*
Mr. Edgar Hansen!
Honestly, the problem with having Edgar as our Hump Day subject is the fact that I cannot pick just ONE picture. Hope ya'll don't mind.

I Need A New Subject Post...
My post feed says "Hump Day" "Hump Day" "Hump Day". Its a little repetitive.
But I digress..
Heeeerrrreeee's Freddy!
I have been looking and looking and looking for a great Freddy pic, and let me tell you, they are hard to find. But this one, this IS Freddy. He is such an amazing guy, so happy, so positive, that he really is a boon to any deck he works on. I hope to one day meet him, he is exactly what a real hardworking man looks like, inside and out.
Love you Freddy!!!

Ko-Ko-Kodiak!
Heeeyyyy ya'll. I hope your Hump Day is going well. I'm gonna keep this short and simple, and give a big shout out to all my Kodiak Lovin girls. I know this is a pretty "generic" picture of Bill, but for some reason, it's my favorite.
Its probably the hair. Or the smile. Don't get to see him smile much when he's fishin'. Have a great day everyone!

Hello Wednesday
So I originally picked someone else to be hump day today, but, there were a lack of pictures for him. Then I saw this one and my brain went dumb, and I couldn't blink, breathe, or move.
Its like he's leaning over to tell us a secret. Um, I'm alllll ears, trust me.
Love ya!
*Shannon*
P.S. I know EXACTLY which episode this picture is from, and I realize that it was no laughing matter at the time. But allow me to have a little fun with it, and remember I do it with love and respect. Muah!

Happy Birthday to Us!!!
Its here! One year ago today Aidin and I started this blog. Wow this thing has become a beast! So I thought to myself, since this past year has been so amazing, why not take a look back to see how far we've come? Everyone! To the Time Machine!
(pardon my lameless, I'm on day 3 of little to no sleep. ha.)
My very first post, where I promptly became a liar. Good Times.
My Intentions
Yeah, I'm sure I promised that this blog wouldn't be a squealing fangirly mess, but alas, Hump Days have dominated our blog.
Ah, yes, the burning questions I find myself asking:
How Green Are You?
Woot! Our first meet and greet!
Three Men and Pincher's Crabs
Was it Chevy that had the theme some "Like a Rock"? Man I need to start reading Car and Driver magazine.
Back Up, It's Always A Good Idea
Once upon a time, I wrote a letter to the captains and crews, and I cried while writing it. Because I'm lame. I already told you this.
A Letter of Farewell
Oh yeah, the time Aidin and I tried to be ninjas and Edgar caught us!
This Ain't No BullShit
This was a nightmare. No really. It was horrible.
Something is Extremely Wrong Here
Wow its been a crazy year. What was your favoriate Ode2DC moment?
Thank you to everyone for your love and support! Hope to see you around!

What Day Is It?
This Hump Day is a tad bit different...but not much. Instead of posting a picture here, follow this link:
http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/photo.php?fbid=1946095941304&set=o.114557221915191&type=1&theater
I didn't have time to ask Shayne for permission to use this picture of Jake Jolibois from the F/V Kodiak here on the blog, I decided just to link it because I LOVE this picture.
I mean honestly, how adorable is this picture? I just want to scoop Jake and his mom Colleen into a big hug!
Happy Hump Day!

So far we're doing really good on raising money for CFF. I'll give you the grand total when the auction ends. So I figured instead of posting ever link to every item all the time on facebook; I'd do it on here to make it easier.

Missing on Deadliest Catch: F/V Northwestern
I don't actually mind how Discovery has Season 7 set up with certain boats every episode, but of course I missed seeing the Northwestern. So to keep that amazing boat in mind, I chose Mr. Sig Hansen for today's Hump Day pic.
I prefer my Sig with facial hair, like when he's been up for three days with no sleep, but alas, I couldn't find such a picture on such short notice. (I literally remember Hump Day was today like five minutes ago. Crisis averted!)
*Shannon*
(May I make a note here? I was actually going to choose Adam from the Kodiak for today's pic, but after how he acted on yesterday's episode, I changed my mind.)

An Auction for CFF
Ok so a few days ago I woke up with this idea. I ran it by Shannon and we had to get confirmation from CFF officals before we could talk to you about this.
So here I go. I woke up thinking it would be really cool if we did a massive auction for CFF. Shannon and I would pick a shirt for our www.cafepress.com/Ode2DC shoppe and then have everyone on our Odeto DeadliestCatch FaceBook Fan page bid on it with ALL proceeds going to CFF to help them.
I figured since a lot of us are going to CFF in September it would be nice to do something for them. The shirt has not been picked yet. The three I've been thinking of doing is either "This is bad. This is bad bad" The circle Bad Juju or Bering Sea Prison.
This is how it will work. I will figure out a way to do an auction (probably do something on ebay) and you guys bid on the shirt. Yes I'm aware that you might be paying more for the shirt then it's worth but I'm hoping because this money isn't going to Shannon or myself you guys would help out CFF and possible help make it worth while.
I also figured that if anyone has questions; like if this is real and if the money will really be going to CFF then please feel free to ask Ron Williams aka Dungeness Ron on FB. Right now we're in the talking stage on how to do this. I would really like everyone to help and join a good cause.
Thanks. Please let me know what you think.

Does anyone still do that when they have to spell out Wednesday? Sound it out? Kinda a weird word right?
Oh, that's not why you are here? You want a Hump Day picture? Well fine then, how about TWO?!
Hmm yummy. Who doesn't love them some Jake Anderson? I swear to you, its the eyes!
I'm gonna miss you all while I am gone, but don't feel too bad for me, I'll be in Daytona Beach hanging out with some pretty awesome ladies, eating, drinking, and a little bit of learning. Love you!!!

Anyone Want to Be Hillstranded with Me?
Ok, this week's Hump Day picture was a no-brainer. Andy Hillstrand? Damn right!
And we learned something new about Captain Andy. He can sing!
I love his voice, and the lyrics to this song are amazing. Thank you Captain Andy for sharing this with us!

Time Flies
So its been a year. A year since I've started watching Deadliest Catch in February, a year since I got Aidin hooked in April, a year since we started the blog and the Facebook page in May.
This blog is almost an after thought, as Aidin and I spend most of our time on Facebook interacting with all of the Deadliest Catch friends we've made in the last year (813 to be exact!), but every once in a while, we will have a light bulb go off in our brains and we will post something other than Hump Days and Hotties of the Month.
Today I had one such light bulb. Deadliest Catch is so much more than a TV show.
This isn't news to those of us who count ourselves as fans. But to the uninitiated, we might seem to be a little on the crazy side. They might be right, but that's beside the point. Where else can you find a group of people who all connect on some level because of a TV show? Name one, I dare you.
Jersey Shore? Please.
American Idol? Not even close.
Survivor? Uh no.
What is the difference between these shows (used as examples) and Deadliest Catch? I'd like to say "oh simple, let me explain" but its not simple. Most reality shows on TV now exploit people. They aren't REAL in the correct sense of the word.
Real, by definition is as follows: 1. Not imaginary or pretended; actual 2. Authentic or genuine 3.Essential; basic 4. Serious
Deadliest Catch is not imaginary, or pretend, contrary to recent reports. Can't fake waves or injuries. The captains and crews are authentic, extremely genuine. They make no apologies for who they are. Their way of life is essential to them, its a basic fact. And they are damn serious about their jobs.
Can any other reality show on TV say that?
So back to my musings on this past year. We've seen two great, brave men perish, ironically, off the crab grounds, we've seen the Harris boys rise up and follow through with their many responsibilities, we've watched on pins and needles, waiting for some word on Jake Anderson's father, crossed our fingers that Captains Sig, John, and Andy would return for the seventh season, and fumed over nasty "he said, no he said" arguments.
But the friends Aidin and I have made over the last 12 months keep us in awe everyday. We rally around one another, send prayer and hopes when needed, and laugh everyday. It spills over into our personal lives, and we welcome it. Deadliest Catch Buddies become friends, where we share our lives, our fears, and our tears, and no one gets put down because of it.
All in all, yes, Deadliest Catch is more than a TV show, its a common bond between millions of people around the world. We have friends in Australia, Finland, Denmark, Indonesia, Canada, Africa, Cuba, South America, and Russian. Literally EVERYWHERE. Deadliest Catch crosses over boundaries, political ideas, and beliefs and joins us in a way no other "reality" TV show can.
So this next year is going to be one big thank you. I could write all day long and never really express my gratitude the way I want to. It feels inadequate, but its the best I have.
Thank you to Discovery, to the production and camera crews. Thank you to every single one of the Captains and the crews, old and new, for allowing us to enter a small piece of your lives, and not begrudging us a little adventure. To the wives and children at home, we thank you for sharing your husbands and fathers with us. To the Coast Guard, thank you for risking your lives everyday to save those who need your help, no matter if its the Bering Sea or the Atlantic.
And mostly, thank you, from Aidin and I, to our Facebook friends, who's continual support brighten every single moment for us. We love you.
